VENUE
The OPEN 2009 symposium takes place in the premises of the University of Art and Design Helsinki. The University is located in the Arabia district, about 6 kilometers from downtown Helsinki. The keynote speeches and the short paper and video presentations will be held in the great lecture hall 822.
Enter the building through the main entrance, take the elevator situated behind the porter’s stall to the 8th floor and head diagonally to your right towards the open doors. Or alternatively follow the A4 signs with the OPEN2009 logo. The symposium reception is inside the lecture hall.

HOW TO GET THERE
Public transportation options
You can easily get to the University of Art and Design with the following public transportation options from the Railway Station (Rautatieasema), downtown Helsinki. The duration of the trip is about 20 minutes and you can buy tickets from the driver or kiosks.
- Busses 71, 71V and 68 (depart from the Railway Station)
- Tram 6 (travels via the Railway Station)
Other buses and trams, which do not travel via the Railway Station, but stop close to the University, include:
- Tram 8 (travels via Sörnäinen to Arabia)
- Bus 74 (departs from the Hakaniemi market square)
- Bus 506 (travels via Otaniemi to Arabia)

ACCOMMODATION
We have reserved fifteen hotel rooms for the purposes of the OPEN 2009 symposium from Sokos Hotel Presidentti, which is located downtown Helsinki. If you are in need of accommodation during your stay in Helsinki, you can use these rooms by confirming a room reservation. You need to pay the room yourself, but we have asked for a discount price for the rooms. Below is more information about the hotel as well as other accommodation alternatives.
Sokos Hotel Presidentti
The hotel rooms are single occupancy rooms and they have been reserved from 4th to 6th of November, but you may choose a shorter stay within these dates. You may also ask for extra nights beyond the given dates, but please note that you need to pay the regular price for these most likely, without the discount. The discount price is 112 euros per one night, which includes the breakfast buffet.
The rooms are confirmed either by calling, faxing or emailing the hotel Sales Service (see contact information below). Please note that the confirmation cannot be done using the online reservation form available at the hotel website, and that you need to pay the room yourself. When confirming the booking, you need to give “OPEN 2009 SYMPOSIUM” allotment code in order to get the discount price. The confirmation has to be done before October 21st at 8pm (Finnish time).
